How Much Do Therapist Headshots Cost in Sacramento?
By Kino Park · October 15, 2026 · 6 minute read

If you’re building or refreshing a therapy practice website, photography is one of the first expenses to plan for. The useful question is not just ‘What does a headshot cost?’ It’s ‘What photos do I need, and what is included?’ A directory portrait and a full set of website images solve different problems. Here’s how I’d think about the budget as a mental health therapist and photographer based in Elk Grove.
A practical price range for your practice
Professional headshot prices vary with the photographer, session format, location, and number of finished images. A short individual session generally sits at the lower end of a photographer’s offerings; a longer branding session with multiple looks costs more. There isn’t one standard Sacramento rate. Compare actual inclusions rather than assuming every session with the same name gives you the same thing.
At Photography by Kino, individual packages range from $300 to $400. Basic Headshot is $300, Branding Session is $375, and Branding + Office is $400. These are my current package prices, not a market-wide average. Group practices use a separate $400 base session plus $25 per clinician. Studio rental and travel can add to the total, depending on your plans.
Basic Headshot: a focused update for $300
The Basic Headshot includes up to 30 minutes and 3 professionally edited, torso-up photos. It’s a good fit when you need an updated portrait for Psychology Today, LinkedIn, or your website’s About page. You’re not paying for a large image library you won’t use. Think about the crop you need, the background you prefer, and whether your current directory photo still feels like you.
Branding Session: more variety for $375
A Branding Session includes up to 45 minutes and 10 edited photos, with headshots, mid-length, and full-body shots across different backgrounds and settings. Complimentary black and white extras are included. This is useful when you need both a close portrait and wider images for your homepage, speaking bio, social posts, or printed materials. A second layer, such as a cardigan or blazer, can create variety without making the session complicated.
Branding + Office: your people and your space for $400
Branding + Office includes everything in the Branding Session plus 10 photos of your office. Those images help your website show clients what to expect: the room, the seating, and the details that communicate how you work. A waiting area, sandtray, artwork, or a thoughtfully chosen bookshelf can tell part of the story. Rather than relying on generic interiors, you can show the actual place where clients will meet you.
What affects the price?
The number of edited photos
More delivered images mean more time selecting and editing photographs after the shoot. Check the number included in the price, not simply how many frames are taken. Three finished portraits can be plenty for a focused profile update; ten varied images give you more options across a website. Basic Headshot does not include complimentary black and white extras; the other packages do.
Session length and variety
Time matters, but so does what happens during it. Changing backgrounds, moving between indoor and outdoor settings, and photographing different crops all take planning. Choose enough time for the images you actually need. A relaxed session with clear direction is more useful than rushing through a long shot list just to maximize the number of pictures.
Studio versus available light
An outdoor session or your own office can work beautifully. A rented Sacramento studio is available for an additional $75 for one hour if you prefer a controlled setting. Neither option is automatically better: the right choice depends on the look you want and the space available. Travel beyond the listed service cities, within two hours of Sacramento, adds $225. Ask about location logistics before you reserve your date.
How group practice pricing works
For group practices, the $400 base session includes 10 office photos and a group photo. Each clinician adds $25 for a 10-minute mini session and 3 edited photos. Consistent lighting and framing help a team page look cohesive while leaving room for each person’s personality. Coordinating everyone into one shoot can also make launching or refreshing a shared website easier than collecting unrelated portraits over time.
Where will you use your photos?
Make a short list before choosing a package. A Psychology Today profile usually needs a clear, approachable portrait. Your homepage may need a wider image with room for text. An About page, directory listing, professional bio, and social media each use slightly different crops. You receive professional usage rights across your website, directories, social media, and print materials; the images cannot be resold. Keep those real uses in mind when comparing packages.
Booking, delivery, and the deposit
Start by filling out the session request form. I’ll email a services agreement for you to review and sign. If you’d like, we can schedule an optional 20-minute call to discuss the plan. After signing, a $75 deposit secures your date. It is fully refundable if you cancel by email at least 48 hours before your session. Edited photos arrive in 2–3 weeks; ask about rush delivery if you have a deadline.
Choose the package that fits—not just the largest one
If you only need a new directory portrait, Basic Headshot may be all you need. If you’re rebuilding your website or want consistent images for several uses, consider Branding. If the room itself is part of what makes your practice feel welcoming, Branding + Office adds that context. You don’t have to know exactly how to pose or arrive with a perfect plan. I’ll help you feel grounded and choose a setting that feels natural.
Compare the full photography packages, explore office photography, or request a session to tell me about your practice. I’d love to help you create photos that feel like you.
